Scott Benken joins to highlight an August Trial of the Week “A Randomized Trial of Epinephrine in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest aka the PARAMEDIC2 study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2018.
Our discussion begins with a preview of C4, Chicagoland Critical Care Conference. Taking place this year on Saturday, August 24th. Be sure to register today!
We set the scene by reviewing the historical use of epinephrine in cardiac arrest. We review previous ACLS treatment guidelines, discuss historical research up to this point, and the biggest unanswered question regarding epinephrine use.
Then we dive into the Trial of the Week, discussing the study design and results. Were there any significant secondary outcomes or subgroup analyses? Balancing the primary and secondary outcome findings, differences in other treatments received, reviewing other post-hoc publications, why is epinephrine still recommended, have we answered this question, trial fun facts, and much more.
Lastly, due to popular demand, the deadline for 2024 Pharmacy to Dose award nominations will be extended for 2 weeks, through Friday, August 30th.
